CO2 1 carbon atom covalently bonded with 2 oxygen atoms. CO2 is the most common GHG after water vapor. There are natural and human activity based CO2 emissions. Because CO2 is the most common it is used as a proxy by which we measure GHG emissions. The combination of GHG emissions is commonly referred to as CO2e or CO2equivalent.
