Principle Systems Engineer

As the Principal Systems Engineer, you will design, architect and implement AMPLY’s site controller distributed software stack including charging station control (OCPP and non OCPP), fully redundant local network and Internet connectivity, in a high availability cluster setup, integrating with the AMPLY electric panel meter, control of storage and solar systems, and grid connectivity (open ADR). You have deep experience in the key patterns of our global cloud and replicated local site controller software stack:

Distributed data management for real time, evented control systems, eventual consistency and transactional architecture patterns between cloud controller and local distributed cache.

Responsibilities

Design, architecture and development of AMPLY’s site / local controller distributed software stack

Site controller systems design, lead 3 rd party hardware design partner companies, design of software/applications layer, including high availability / cluster design, local control replication of global could controller, fail save mechanisms, control of storage and solar systems, and grid connectivity control (open ADR)

Distributed software modular system design including redundancy, reliability failover, and automated recovery

Charging Depot Network Design and Implementation

Management of 3rd parties or in-house personnel for validation/integration, installation and operations of OCPP and non OCPP level 2 and fast EVSEs/charging stations

Contribute to AMPLY EV standard charging station technical specification and integrations with third party EVSE platforms

Test and deploy the local controller software stack, with a view to achieve 99.99% end to end service availability

Interoperability testing between AMPLY cloud platform, third party hardware and vehicle, based on (evolving) industry standards like OCPP, CCS, and others

Validate specs by creating HW / system test fixtures, creating and managing (in production, throughout lifecycle) firmware configurations dedicated to cloud platform integrations

Providing technical support on integration related questions coming from customers

Work in a continuous integration continuous development environment where you help maintain test driven discipline and enforce the & do not break the build rule & right from the beginning. Establish and maintain continuous integration, continuous delivery pipelines

Help with hiring efforts as the team grows

Qualifications

Bachelors or Masters in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics or Computer Engineering

5+ years of IoT / Distributed Software architecture development experience, distributed systems at cluster scale, distributed IoT decision making in real time transactional systems, asynchronous kernel level development

3+ years of Microgrid systems architecture experience

Deep understanding of distributed IoT (cloud / local) data and control management at global scale

Good knowledge of evolving level 2/3 charging protocols, CCS / OCPP / CharIN, and preferably hands-on experience with vehicle to charger to cloud integration testing, is an asset

Strong knowledge of evolving level 2/3 charging protocols, CCS / OCPP / CharIN, and preferably hands-on experience with vehicle to charger to cloud integration testing

Experience in Firmware Specification and validation of low/medium voltage E charging stations (EVSE), is an asset

Senior Operations Project Manager

AMPLY is hiring a talented Senior Operations Project Manager to successfully deploy and manage the development of distributed-scale and EV fleet charging projects.

 

This is a full-time position based at our HQ office in Mountain View, CA.

Responsibilities

Build highly robust and fault-tolerant EV fleet charging facilities.  Set corporate procedures for project delivery and performance.  Interface with local electric utilities and EPC contractors during project execution.  Manage large-scale capital and operations/maintenance budgets and associated personnel.

Operational Project Development

Manage project development, cost, budget, contract, construction management and O&M

Provide technical oversight and support on issues pertaining to the utility interconnection process and requirements

Review all electrical plans before submission to the utility and be the technical expert in negotiations requirements that may be imposed on a project

Review design documents confirming to specifications requirements for project development and construction

Operational management of all electrical distribution and power generation design

Work with executive leadership on directly communicating the deployment group’s short and long term development strategy

Interface with external vendors to prepare electrical equipment specifications as required

Lead project development across the full project lifecycle from origination to commissioning and all associated activities required to bring projects to successful commercial operation

Project Management

Manage project milestones from inception to completion including permitting, design, interconnection, budget, approval, permitting, contracting, financing, construction, safety practices, and site supervision

On-site supervisor of subcontractors and quality control

Experience with OSHA safety standards and documentation

Provide effective communication, progress reports, and status updates to all internal and external stakeholders

Review and document pertinent utility requirements impacting project construction

Strong project management experience with a focus on high performance, regulatory and permitting knowledge

Conduct due diligence on development-stage projects

Collaborate with engineering team, external vendors, and customers to evaluate site layouts, constraints, technology options, schedule implications, interconnection applications and relevant tasks needed for successful project deployment

Business Development / Account Executive

Responsible for project closeout – AHJ inspection, internal commissioning, and equipment testing

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, environmental science, Master’s preferred

Minimum 5 – 8 years of experience serving solar, energy storage, EV charging, or renewable energy industry as a project manager or operations lead

Must have expert knowledge of utility, power systems/distribution, and commercial interconnection conditions

Must have expertise in full life-cycle development of distributed scale energy related projects

Ability to execute on multiple projects simultaneously and spearhead new business development opportunities on the east coast

Strong interpersonal, excellent communication, and project management skills

Must be a proactive leader, problem solver, self-manage deadlines and tasks

Resourceful and strategic self-starter who can manage complex commercial projects and identify opportunities with limited guidance

Knowledge of governmental mandates, environmental regulations or customer/market signals that impact or facilitate new development of EV charging commercial projects in major markets
